Subject: Turtleface Center
Rating: V2
Quality: 3 stars
Location: Joshua Tree
Notes: Technical slab climbing
Turtleface Center is one of those climbs that looks easy,
until you try to get on the thing and realize that the
foot edges have been polished from nearly 40 years of
people climbing on it. The problem is impossible to get
up without a solid trust in your footwork. Probably first
climbed by Ken Wolf or one of the other "Desert Rats"
way way back in the early '70s.
Start up the boulder in the center of the face, its possible
to meander a bit on the problem. The low angle problem
is 20ft. tall and "officially" finishes at the
apex of the boulder, although it is possible to bail to
one of the easier aretes on either side of the problem.
